Welcome to New Testament Greek. The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the basic elements of Greek grammar and vocabulary as a foundation for reading and interpreting the Greek New Testament.
The course closely follows the outline of Mounce’s Basics of Biblical Greek (3rd edition) and the supplementary Workbook. In addition to these books, students are encouraged to review the material from the textbook with the online resource Billmounce.com/newtestamentgreek1. The “chapter overviews” offered in billmounce.com, to be “consumed” at the student’s convenience, will give us more class time for personal interaction and the assimilation of information with more practical work. This means that students must be motivated to learn the principles of each lesson before the class. Though we will use the first part of each class to outline and answer questions about the lesson, much of the class-time will be working in groups.
Since reading the Greek NT is our objective, a firm grasp of vocabulary and grammar in the initial stages is essential. To facilitate steady and incremental learning, daily quizzes and written assignments are required. The ultimate goal, of course, is to enjoy and deepen our understanding of the text itself.
Live Online & Recorded: This course is being offered online in Winter 2023. In order to support students who are unable to attend the regular online class sessions, recordings will be made available on the course Moodle page for 48 hours following each class. In some cases, attendance at other sessions may be required.
