International Justice Camp in Cuba

Dear Friends:

Some of you may be aware that the Diocese of Niagara and the Diocese of Cuba have a companion diocese relationship.  You may also know about Justice Camp, an event that has taken place semi-annually in various dioceses—including the Diocese of Niagara – over about the past decade.  The last one was held in Edmonton in August 2014 and a number of young adults from the Diocese of Cuba participated.

PWRDF has been involved to varying degrees in Justice Camp over the years, and last year was invited to participate in the planning and funding of “the first-ever international Justice Camp” in Cuba from April 30 to May 7, 2016.  Based on PWRDF’s March 2015 Sharing Bread delegation to Cuba, we have encouraged the planning group to include a food security immersion experience in the Justice Camp in Cuba.  The other two immersion programs will examine economic justice and social engagement.  For details about the Cuba Justice Camp go to http://justicecamp.ca/

Approximately 25 Canadians and 25 Cubans will participate in the Justice Camp.  PWRDF has requested that 3-4 of the Canadians be from its volunteer networks.  Thus, we are writing to you to consider your participation in this event.  It will be a wonderful opportunity to learn about the work of the Episcopal Church in Cuba and, should you participate in the food security immersion, the work of PWRDF’s other development in Cuba, the Cuban Council of Churches and its Sustainable Development Program.

If you have any questions about the Justice Camp and/or PWRDF’s involvement in it, please don’t hesitate to contact Suzanne at [email protected].  The deadline for applications is November 20 so don’t delay!

Peace,

The CAPP Team
