Developmental Perspectives on Children and Spirituality: Insights for the Whole Life Cycle (1213-36)
Amy Hollingsworth, Psychologist, College Professor, and Author of The Simple Faith of Mister Rogers; along with other presenters
Fred Rogers opened many eyes to the possibilities of guiding children in their early years to grow emotionally and socially. At the core of his Neighborhood were values like compassion, kindness, and respect, which are integral both to Christian and to other faith traditions. This program will begin with Mr. Rogers’ insights and will proceed to recent insights derived from research regarding principles of healthy development. Not surprisingly, such principles are significant for healthy human functioning at later ages too. A special feature of this program is that it will include original film of Mr. Rogers interacting with children. The program will take place in the context of an annual event on the Seminary campus, the Summer Leadership Conference, which will occur from Sunday evening, June 9 through Wednesday afternoon, June 12. / Sun., June 9, 7:00-8:30 p.m.; Mon., June 10, 9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., 2013 / Cost TBD / 5.5 CE credits for psychologists, social workers, and therapists (4.0 CE credits, Monday only)
