Inspired by Thomas Merton’s pilgrimage to Cuba, Shalem will journey to Cuba in
January to join in prayer with diverse Cuban communities and congregations.

We will begin in the coastal city of Matanzas with visits to congregations and cultural
sites. At the heart of this time is a two-day, bi-lingual retreat (with translators), where
we will join with chaplains who minister to Cuban prisoners.  The last four days will be spent in Old Havana visiting cultural and religious sites.

Please join us for this special opportunity to experience the beauty and vitality of
Cuba as well as the resilience, hospitality and passionate heart of Cuban Christians!!

Together we will enter into the slower pace of life in Cuba, grounding our daily
activities in prayer and reflection and weaving in reflections from Merton’s writings
and prayer.  We also will build our spiritual community through small group sharing
and times of silence, hoping to deepen the seeds of contemplation in our own lives.
