Do you long for a supportive Christian community to learn with, journey with and be accountable to? The Common Life Community is designed to address spiritual challenges of our time.
Small groups meet frequently to be accountable to one another for their practice of five disciplines:
- Engagement for Justice
- Attending to the Spirit
- Dedication to Learning
- Commitment to Community
- Retreat
Members covenant with each other to go deeper into each practice. Their ultimate purpose is to nurture a network of disciples who share a common life in order to discern and do God’s healing work in church, and in God’s world.
Common Life Community is patterned after the Iona Community. There are Common Life communities connected to each of the United Church’s Education and Retreat centres.

Common Life Community Annual Spring Retreat

The Common Life Community of Five Oaks will be gathering in April to continue discerning God’s calling to us in this time and place. Common Life Communities connected to each of the United Church’s education and retreat centres across Canada are patterned after the Iona Community. Small groups meet regularly to be accountable to one another for their practice of five disciplines – engagement for justice, attending to the spirit, dedication to learning, commitment to community, and retreat. Members covenant with each other to go deeper into each practice. Our ultimate purpose is to nurture a network of disciples who discern and do God’s healing work in our churches, and in the world. If you wish to discover whether the Spirit is leading you to become a part of this intentional spiritual community then you are welcome to join the group for our annual retreat.
