About the keynoters
Jeri Sedlar and Rick Miners are the authors of Don’t Retire, Rewire. The husband and wife team are on a mission “to help people rewire into fulfilling and financially secure next acts that keep them engaged and connected to society as they age.”
Sedlar is an author and motivational speaker who has been doing research on personal growth and transition for more than 20 years. Her work has been featured on The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, PBS, CNN, FOX, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reader’s Digest and TIME.
Miners is an entrepreneur, author and coach in the areas of personal and professional growth and transformation. He has an extensive leadership and management background and has lectured at universities, industry forums and nonprofit on strategic workforce issues. He has appeared on The Today Show, CNN, PBS, Wall Street Week and radio programs.

COORDINATOR: The Rev. Lisa Flores is the associate for pastoral care at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in Dallas. Previously, she was the associate rector for formation and servant ministries at Church of the Holy Communion in Memphis, Tenn. She is a past president of Forma (formerly the National Association for Episcopal Christian Education Directors) and currently serves on their board of advisors. She has attended or served on the staff of various Kanuga events for 20 years, including coordinating Kanuga’s Christian Formation Conference in 2009.
CHAPLAIN: The Rev. Ben Alford is a preacher and teacher in Titus, Ala., with plenty of “rewiring” experience. He served in the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic, teaching civil engineering, trigonometry, soil conservation and forest management at the National Forestry School. He later spent 10 years as a community organizer and field director with The Boy Scouts of America before going to seminary. Ordained in 1987, he served churches in New Orleans, Beaumont, Texas, and Wetumpka, Ala., before retiring in 2011.
The Bowen Conference
The Bowen Conference was created through the generosity of Buford Bowen as an annual conference to explore Christian commitment. Since it began in 1989, the Bowen Conference has grown into one of Kanuga’s premier conferences. Past keynoters include Bruce Feiler, Jon Meacham, Barbara Brown Taylor, Frank Griswold, N. T. Wright, Andrew Greeley and Frederick Buechner, as well as Terry Waite, Henri Nouwen and Robert Bellah.
