Adventures in Research: Mussolini’s Island – An Evening with Writer in Residence Sarah Day

12th November – 12th November 2019

8:00 pm

Join our final Writer in Residence of 2019 for tales of adventure through time and space…

In researching novels based on real life historical events, author Sarah Day has followed eighteenth-century explorers to Russia and a group of persecuted gay men to the Tremiti Islands. She has explored a hidden church beneath a swimming pool in St Petersburg, a derelict prison on San Domino, and viewed countless photographs and archives of extraordinary individuals. Sarah will offer fascinating tales of her travels, as well as tips for your own travels – and your own travel writing.

Sarah Day is a historical novelist, columnist, and reviewer. After some years spent in science-based disciplines her debut novel, Mussolini’s Island, was published in 2017 to creative and commercial success (winner of a Betty Trask award, shortlisted for the HWA Debut Crown and Polari First Novel Prize). As well as writing fiction, Sarah is a science communicator for the Geological Society and has also worked with The Natural History Museum and the British Science Association to find news way to communicate scientific theories and discoveries.

Tickets are priced at £15 or £25.95 with dinner (a copy of Mussolini’s Island included).  Book online, call Reception on 01244 532350 or email [email protected].
