Shalem Society 2017 Annual Gathering
Glimpsing God in the Dark Night, Shalem Society’s Annual Gathering, is scheduled for October 29-November 2, 2017. The Gathering, open to all long-term program graduates, will include a talk by Tilden Edwards, a day of silence, meetings in listening circles and reflection on the theme.

How and where do we sense the hidden work of the Divine birthing love in the darkness? In the midst of confusion and unknowing, both at the personal and societal levels, what glimmers of starshine guide us? Gerald May reminds us that the dark night is a profoundly good thing, a deep transformation that happens mysteriously and gives meaning to life.
Our gathering over All Hallows, All Saints, All Souls and Dia de Los Muertos reminds us of the thin veil between the worlds that allows the grace of the Spirit to touch us with hope and courage when we feel afraid and alone. We intend to renew our commitment to our contemplative grounding in the midst of the dark night. We gather to companion each other in deep wonder and attentiveness to glimpses of the Divine.
SOCIETY GATHERING DESIGN: The Gathering will include a talk by Tilden Edwards, a day of silence, meetings in listening circles and reflection on the theme. For those who feel led to engage in the business of the Shalem Society, there will be an additional Thursday afternoon session to listen to the Spirit and discern our way forward.

As one of the components of the Society for Contemplative Leadership, the Annual Gathering is open to all people who have completed the second residency of one of Shalem’s long-term programs: Going Deeper: Clergy Spiritual Life and Leadership Program, Facilitating Group Spiritual Direction Program, Transforming Community: Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups & Retreats Program, Living in God: Personal Spiritual Deepening Program, Nurturing the Call: Spiritual Guidance Program, Soul of the Executive Program, and YALLI: Young Adult Life and Leadership Initiative.
Please note: if you are a graduate of one of Shalem’s long-term programs and are considering membership in the Society, you are welcome to come to the Gathering to discern if the Society is right for you at this time.
Society Gathering Cancellation Policy:
If you need to cancel your registration for the Shalem Fall 2017 Society Gathering and wish to receive a partial refund, you must contact Shalem at least two weeks before the beginning of the program, in which case Shalem will refund the program tuition less the $75 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit. No tuition refunds can be made for cancellations within two weeks of the program start date. Refunds for room and board costs will be made consistent with the cancellation policy of the residential facility for the event.
