While books of fiction may not be factual, they may also be deeply true, awakening the imagination to shape lives of meaning, intelligence and beauty. As we immerse ourselves during this year’s Light to Read By in the context and characters of the American South, we discover universal meanings to give us pause and purpose wherever we are from. Participants should read prior to attending: Flight Behavior, Barbara Kingsolver’s most recent book, Walker Percy’s The Moviegoer, his debut novel which won the National Book Award, Collected Short Stories by Carson McCullers, and poetry by Wendell Berry.
