Join us for two days of talks with New York Times best-selling author Eric Metaxas, whose keynote at the 2012 National Prayer Breakfast railed against “phony religiosity” and called U.S. lawmakers to take Jesus’s teachings seriously, all while using his trademark wit and humor to keep the audience roaring with laughter.

Metaxas will share the stories of William Wilberforce and Dietrich Bonhoeffer as we explore ways to make our faith culturally relevant.

About the keynoter

Eric Metaxas speaks and leads 3,500 guests in singing “Amazing Grace” at the 2012 National Prayer Breakfast.

Eric Metaxas is the best-selling author of Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy and Amazing Grace: William Wilberforce and the Heroic Campaign to End Slavery. He also is the author of the Everything You Always Wanted to Know About God series and 30 children’s books. He has been featured as a cultural commentator on CNN, MSNBC and the Fox News Channel and has discussed his own books on The History Channel, C-Span’s Book TV, Glenn Beck and Hannity & Colmes. He has been featured on many radio programs, including NPR’s Morning Edition and Talk of the Nation, Hugh Hewitt, Bill Bennett, Janet Parshall’s America, Monica Crowley and The Alan Colmes Show.

He is the founder and host of Socrates in the City, a monthly event of “entertaining and thought-provoking discussions on ‘life, God, and other small topics’” that features such speakers as Dr. Francis Collins, Sir John Polkinghorne, Baroness Caroline Cox, N.T. Wright, Os Guinness and Peter Kreeft. He has written for VeggieTales and Rabbit Ears Productions, earning three Grammy nominations for Best Children’s Recording. A graduate of Yale University, he attends Calvary/St. George’s Episcopal Church and lives in Manhattan, New York.

CHAPLAIN: The Rev. Timothy Kimbrough is the dean at Christ Church Cathedral in Nashville, Tenn. He is a graduate of Duke University and its Divinity School and has done graduate work at General Theological Seminary in New York City. He is a seven-time deputy to General Convention and has completed a term of service on the Executive Council of the Episcopal Church with a special focus on domestic and international missions. He has studied musical composition extensively and his compositions have been published in The United Methodist Hymnal, Psalms for Praise and Worship, Sweet Singer and several GBGMusik songbooks on companion CDs.

COORDINATOR: The Rev. Ginny Bain Inman is associate rector at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greensboro, N.C. A graduate of Vanderbilt Law School, Vanderbilt Divinity School and Virginia Theological Seminary, she practiced law as a corporate litigator before answering the call to ordination. She has served congregations in Washington. D.C., North Carolina and Georgia and has particular interests in Christian formation, medical ethics and First Amendment jurisprudence.

The Lansing Lee Conference

The annual Lansing Lee Conference honors the memory of Lansing B. Lee Jr. of Augusta, Ga., who participated in many aspects of Kanuga’s programs and governance for more than 50 years. The conference focuses on the theme “Practicing the Faith” with each event exploring a different dimension of that topic in the context of the world, nation, the Church and society. The conference is made possible by an endowment established by Lee’s wife Natalie.
