On our pilgrimage journey, we will be praying for God’s ways of peace to be born more fully in us. We begin with a day of prayer and teaching led by J. Philip Newell , who joins us for one day in Glasgow as we set our intentions for the days ahead. On Iona we will immerse ourselves in the spiritual treasures of the Isle of Iona, the Iona Community and our own pilgrim community as we listen deeply for God’s prayer in us for peace in our lives, our communities and our world.

Carole A. Crumley, an Episcopal priest and Shalem’s Senior Program Director, is an experienced pilgrimage guide to sacred and secular sites in Europe, the Middle East, and the United States. She has led numerous pilgrimages for Shalem and also directs Shalem’s Clergy Spiritual Life and Leadership: Going Deeper Program, an ecumenical program to nurture the spiritual heart and leadership of congregational clergy. She also currently serves as Senior Guardian for the Shalem Society for Contemplative Leadership.
John Philip Newell is a poet, scholar and teacher. Formerly Warden of Iona Abbey, he is currently Companion Theologian for the American Spirituality Centre of Casa del Sol in New Mexico. He is internationally acclaimed for his work in the field of Celtic spirituality, including his Listening for the Heartbeat of God and Christ of the Celts, as well as his poetic book of prayer, Sounds of the Eternal. He is a Church of Scotland minister with a passion for peace and a fresh vision for harmony between the great spiritual traditions. He has played a leading role in the re-birthing of a creation spirituality for today. His latest book is Praying with the Earth: A Prayer Book for Peace.
