The Society for Pastoral Theology:
Welcome:
The Society is primarily concerned with teaching, research, and publication in pastoral theology, and with the critical and imaginative practice of pastoral care and counselling.
We welcome all who have an academic or professional interest in pastoral theology as a discipline regardless of religious affiliation or professional identity.
Our membership includes seminary teachers and graduate students in the field of pastoral theology as well as practitioners of specialized pastoral care and counselling, parish pastors, and persons from other related academic and professional disciplines.
We hold an annual meeting for a study conference that includes plenary presentations, members’ works in progress, workshops on current topics, and ongoing theological study groups organized around specialized research interests.
We also publish The Journal of Pastoral Theology, and make available through this website an annual directory of graduate programs in pastoral theology and a bibliography of teaching resources in the field.
