Enjoy an alcohol-free New Year’s Eve celebration, with hors d’oeuvres reception and home-cooked dinner, lively concert in the Barn, ice cream social, and midnight candlelight Meeting for Worship.

Bring in the new year and reflect on the old as you invite Spirit into the process of meditative art practices. Explore quieting drawing methods that encourage and nurture creative flow, including Zentangle®,* mandalas, and other contemplative mark-making. Experience a pilgrimage into creation, play, and worship, where we’ll learn to let go of expectations, tame our inner critics, and pay attention to process over product. With these new ways to center and build community through art, we’ll also create a safe space to share and process what it means to be creatively connected to and journey with the inner light. No art skills are needed, just an opening to trust that we ALL are capable of making and sharing our gifts.

forest tangle tiles*Zentangle is an easy to learn, relaxing, and intuitive method to draw extraordinary pieces of black and white abstract images with structured patterns that lends itself well to mindfulness practices and meditation.

Attendees should plan to bring the following:

  • 2 Sakura Pigma Micron Pens of different thicknesses, Black Ink: sizes 01, 08 (you will need both)
  • 1 White Gelly Roll gel pen
  • A favorite writing pen for journaling
  • A blank journal (unlined) 90lb or more with mixed media paper or smooth-ish watercolor paper (Strathmore Visual Journals or Canson Mixed Media Journals are good choices).

Hear what previous participants have to say about this program:

“[I became aware] that I can create something beautiful without having any particular talent other than patience.”

“I really appreciated underlining that art can be/is a spiritual form and that there really is no wrong or right way.”

“It is strange to believe that Quakers in the 18th and 19th centuries tended to disdain the arts as being a distraction from the spiritual elements of life. I think that an experienced Zentangle practitioner provides good evidence to the contrary — certainly our 2 workshop leaders did.”

“It’s just so much fun to be surrounded by so much creative energy and positive spirit.”

“Not only was Sadelle a patient and gifted guide to the new world of Zentangle, she was also able to place this artistic process in the context of a spiritual discipline while still keeping the fun and creativity alive – even for a mom and her daughter. No easy feat!”
