Martin Memorial Lectures

The Martin Memorial Lectures will be held November 8 – 10, 2017. The speaker is Rev. Ray Aldred, Director of Indigenous Studies at Vancouver School of Theology. 

Rev. Aldred is ordained with the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada.  He is status Cree.  Born in Northern Alberta, he now resides with his wife in Richmond, BC. Ray is the Director of the Indigenous Studies Program at the Vancouver School of Theology whose mission is to partner with the Indigenous Church around theological education. Formerly Ray served as Assistant Professor of Theology at Ambrose Seminary in Calgary. Also, he continures to volunteer with My People to develop indigenous leadership. He is former Director for the First Nations Alliance Church of Canada, now committee member, where he worked to encourage Indigenous churches. He is chairperson of Indigenous Pathways. Ray also has had the privilege of addressing several college conferences and meetings. Ray’s passion is to help as many as possible hear the gospel in their heart language. Ray and his wife Elaine, are also involved in ministry to help train people to facilitate support groups for people who have suffered abuse. Also, Elaine and Ray have coordinated Marriage Encounter. Ray and Elaine have four children, Jenny, who has graduated from the University of Regina and the Alliance University College, a school teacher, is married and lives in Richmond; Raymond, who is pursuing a PhD in Philosophy at McGill University; Catherine, has earned an MA in Religious Studies at McGill University, and is a translation coordinator with Canadian Bible Society; and Rueben, who works in the Oil Fields in Northern Alberta.

The first lecture will be Wednesday, November 8 at 7:00pm with compline and refreshments to follow.  Thursday, November 9, there will be a workshop with Rev. Aldred from 1:30 – 4:30pm and the lecture will be at 7:00pm.  Friday, November 10 the lecture will be at 10:00am with worship to follow.  All lectures and the workshop will be held in the Otto Olson Memorial Library, main floor of the Lutheran Theological Seminary, 114 Seminary Crescent. Compline and the closing worship will take place in the Chapel, also on the main floor.  Please make plans to attend.  Parking is available in Pay Lot #4 off of Innovation Blvd.
