Make Your Writing Dazzle – What’s in the Poet’s Paintbox?

17th February – 18th February 2018

Judy Brown leads a playful masterclass helping you to brighten up your writing and enabling you to paint pictures with it (they may be abstract ones!). Explore how colour can be used in a poem, the value of bright light and contrast, what you can make with a collage, and what happens when you let your lines loosen up. Relax by sketching in words and see how serious writerly doodling can be. Remember, as artists do, that sometimes unfamiliar materials can be the most fun to use.

One-to-one sessions with Judy to discuss a short piece of work in progress, or anything else about giving your writing its own vivid life, are available on the Saturday evening as part of this course.

Judy was one of the 2014 Writers in Residence at Gladstone’s Library. She teaches and mentors, including for the Poetry School and the Poetry Society, and occasionally reviews poetry. She was born in Manchester and studied English Literature at Cambridge and Newcastle. Before she became a professional writer, she worked as a lawyer in London and Hong Kong. Judy’s new book of poems, Crowd Sensations (2016), was described by The Telegraph as ‘deliciously tactile’. It was shortlisted for the Ledbury Forte Prize and is a Poetry Book Society Recommendation.

Residential prices start from £125, non-residential from £90. Discount rates for clergy and students apply.
