“Preaching as Leadership”
Rev. Karoline Lewis
Dates:
Friday, November 3rd
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
&
Saturday, November 4th
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Preaching is the proclamation of God’s good news for a particular people, place, and
purpose. Yet, at the same time, it is words that shape a community of believers. How
might a homiletic with leadership in mind work to empower congregations toward public
discourse about faith? How does preaching as leadership influence how we interpret
Scripture? How does our preaching exemplify our own leadership characteristics? We
will imagine how preaching is an act of formation toward bold witness to the Gospel.
Rev. Karoline M. Lewis, Ph.D. is the author of SHE: Five Keys to Unlock the Power of Women
in Ministry (including an accompanying facilitator guide, participant guide, and DVD),
John: Fortress Biblical Preaching Commentaries, as well as numerous articles for The Christian
Century, Feasting on the Word, Feasting on the Gospels, Currents in Theology and Mission,
Lutheran Forum, Word & World, Abingdon Preaching Annual, and Odyssey Networks’s
ON Scripture. She was also one of the 100 religious scholars in the United States
to contribute to the Values and Voices Campaign (valuesandvoices.com).
Lewis is a regular preacher/presenter at the Festival of Homiletics and leads conferences,
workshops, and retreats internationally on the Gospel of John, the New Testament, interpreting
the Bible, preaching, leadership, and women in ministry. She is a contributing

of the site’s weekly podcast, Sermon Brainwave.
