Independent Study for Ministry Professionals
Come to the Princeton Seminary campus to rest, reflect, and study. Need to plan your study leave? This program of self-directed learning is perfect for pastors, Christian institutional leaders, lay professionals, and scholars. Stay in the Erdman Center, steps away from the seminary Library, where you may study and explore its vast resources. Take part in the life of the seminary community by attending daily chapel, taking meals in the dining hall, meeting friends and faculty for coffee in the Brick Cafe, and attending public lectures that may be available. Hosted by the Office of Continuing Education, Independent Study weeks are offered multiple times throughout the year.
What is Included
Princeton Theological Seminary Community
You are invited to be part of the Seminary community during your stay. Attend public lectures, daily chapel, and take meals in the Mackay Campus Center dining room. Depending on the time of year, you may also plan to spend time at the Farminary, the seminary’s 21-acre farm and working garden.
Library Access
Enjoy full use of the Seminary’s Library. A tour of the building and brief orientation to its resources can be arranged.
Lunch with Faculty
Be our guest for lunch one afternoon with faculty and fellow independent study participants.
The Greater Princeton Community
Take advantage of the vibrant Princeton community by enjoying public events at Princeton University, The Princeton Public Library, and The Princeton Arts Council. Take a walk on The Tow Path or down to the Princeton Battlefield Park. Dining options within walking distance to campus include a wide array of choices and price points.
Pre-planning
There is an opportunity to identify and share your study plans after you register. Continuing Education staff is available to assist you in planning your study time, arranging to meet with the reference librarian or setting up conversations with available faculty.
Continuing Education Units
Independent Study participants may earn 1 Continuing Education Unit (CEU) per ten hours of study. Twenty hours of study are expected during the week, for a minimum award of 2.0 CEUs.
Accommodations
Four nights stay on the Seminary campus, in the Erdman Center, are included in the program fee. The price varies according to room type. Three room types are available: Single bed with private bath, Full bed with private bath, Queen suite, and King suite. A limited quantity of each room type is available. The Erdman Center is across the street from the seminary library and easy walking distance to downtown Princeton. Parking is available in the library lot. Should you wish to arrive early or stay longer, additional nights lodging may be added, if available. Nightly rates will apply.
Meals
Included in the program fee is a $50 declining balance card for use in the Mackay Campus Center dining hall and the Library’s Brick Café.

The cost ranges from $460 – $660, depending on room type. Price includes Monday check-in and Friday check-out. Additional nights at the beginning or end may be added, if available. Nightly rates apply.
