This is an opportunity to gather with other feminists to create community, share our stories, renew our commitment to feminism and feminist theology in the church and to learn about the new, leading voices of feminism in the global church. We will also explore the intersectionality of feminist theology with gender and other areas of study.
This retreat will have a balance between opportunities to strengthen and renew ourselves and to engage in learning.
If you are longing to spend time with other feminists, to nurture yourself through story and song, to create a closing feminist liturgy, and to explore the cutting edge of feminist theology this retreat is for you.
This program is grounded in the Christian Tradition.
Program Cost:
We work hard to make our programs accessible, while ensuring that the true costs are covered.
When we get grant funding towards our programs, we name the true cost of the program in order to allow those who are able to pay this cost. Some will even be able to pay a generous cost to donate a little extra to help support others. Others need a reduced cost supported by grant funding. Some need greater financial support through our bursaries.
A request for a single room adds $50 to the overall program cost. No accommodation required (if you are staying nearby) reduces the overall program cost by $80.
During the registration process you will be able to opt into one of the following:
- True Program Cost: $432 (tuition, meals & accommodation in double occupancy)
- Generous Registration Cost: $582 ($150 support for another participant, plus your own tuition, meals & accommodation in double occupancy)
- Reduced Program Cost: $250 (tuition, meals & accommodation in double occupancy) Available only until September 1st
- Lower-income Program Cost: $150 (tuition, meals & accommodations in double occupancy)

Leadership – Joanne McFadden
Joanne McFadden is a feminist, United Church of Canada minister who is currently enjoying a break from ordered ministry to reconnect with her self/soul, to find balance between her inner and outer world, to read, reflect, walk, garden and renew herself in every way. She is deeply concerned about the lack of training in feminist thought and theology in theological education and the church. She fears for the future of the church without this critical lens to guide the church in fulfilling her mission and ministry.
Throughout her years in ministry Joanne has been involved in many justice seeking initiatives. Gender justice and creating safe space for LGBTQ2 persons to participate fully in the life of the church have been a particular concern for her.
Joanne is one of the leaders in the Licensed Lay Worship Leader Program offered through Tatamagouche Centre. During the Ecumenical Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women she was involved in the planning and leadership of the retreats and educational events offered in the Maritime Conference. This will be her first time co-leading an event like this at Tatamagouche Centre.
Leadership – Robyn Brown-Hewitt
Robyn Brown-Hewitt is the United Church Campus Minister at Dalhousie University’s Multifaith Services Office. Her background includes degrees in theatre, theology and narrative therapy, and her career has included 35+ years of educational & pastoral ministry. At one time she was the Faith & Spirituality Program Staff for Tatamagouche Centre. Robyn thoroughly enjoys the company of women and has facilitated women’s circles and retreats from BC to NS.
