Cracking the Monolith: Liberating the Bible for Contemporary Life

8th November – 10th November 2018

John Robinson and Jack Spong kept alive the willingness of people of faith to feel the pull of the future. And yet both were avid students of an ancient text — the Bible. This combination resisted the fossilisation of sacred scripture and ensured that there was a creative and lively engagement between past word and present life so that a vibrant hope for the future might emerge. This course seeks to honour their work by
engaging with new developments in the study of the New Testament.

Alan Cadwallader has been involved in education and research for over three decades. He especially enjoys the dirt of ancient artefacts, the dust of old manuscripts and the excitement of new discoveries. He regularly leads workshops spanning everything from human sexuality to the environment, from faith to archaeology. He is a world authority on the ancient site of Colossae in south-west Turkey and the work of bible translation in the Nineteenth Century. An Anglican priest, Alan now researches and writes out of the Centre for Public and Contextual
Theology at Charles Sturt University in Canberra, Australia.

Residential prices start from £230, non-residential from £160. Discount rates for clergy and students apply.
