Complex Emotion, Detached Appraisal: Writing Memoir – A Masterclass with Writer in Residence Keggie Carew
24th November – 24th November 2018
10am
Join Keggie Carew (author of the memoir Dadland) for a day life-writing. Participants will look at memoir’s contradictions, its combination of high emotion and objective vision, memory, chronology, and where the territories of fiction and non-fiction collide. As well as learning to handle personal material as it transitions from private space to public sphere, Keggie will guide participants as they write their own personal stories.
Keggie Carew has found recent fame with the publication of her ‘shape-shifting’ memoir Dadland. Before she began writing however, Keggie’s career was in contemporary art. After travelling across the world and living in many places along the way, Keggie settled in London where she ran an alternative art space, studied English and Art History at Goldsmith’s, and opened an unconventional pop-up shop in the East End. Keggie now
lives near Salisbury with her husband Jonathan. Together they are establishing a nature reserve on 16 acres of land, where they run educational workshops for underprivileged young people.
Tickets are priced at £35 which includes lunch and tea / coffee.
