Jewish Spirituality: October 22nd – 29th, 2017
Led by: Raanan Mallek, M.Ed., Rabbinical student
Welcome to the Holy City: a place sacred to the Jewish people for thousands of years! This week will be an exploration into the past, present and future of this ancient people. Through the medium of traditional text study, done with a partner (Hevruta), you will see how the Jewish people were able to preserve their religion through personal engagement with sacred works. A Jewish scholar will give an introduction to Jewish exegesis and then Rabbinical students from the Schechter Rabbinical School will partner to give an authentic experience of Jewish exegesis. This will be followed by a Bible Study with a renowned faculty member from the Hebrew University. The week will include a tour to the mystical city of Safed led by a Hasidic Jew who specializes in interfaith tours. You will hear and engage with women’s voices from the present and the ancient past (the Book of Ruth). You will have a private concert at Tantur of showcasing some of the traditional Jewish musical traditions. Tantur’s experienced Jewish guide will then take the group to the Machane Yehuda outdoor market to experience the gastronomy of the Jewish people. Finally, you will be invited to live the traditional Shabbat experience with meals, prayers and reflection. Preview program here: Judaism Spirituality Educational Enrichment Week Itinerary.
